VIDEO: How to make your own beard balm

Bearded London’s step-by-step guide to making natural beard grooming products at home

This video tutorial shows you the basics for looking good, smelling great, and not setting fire to anything.

Experiment with our sweet almond oil-based recipe to make a product tailored to your beard and preferences.

A heads up: using less beeswax will bring you into beard oil/beard lube territory, while using more will give you a harder mixture suitable for curling moustaches. And go easy on the essential oils, as these tend to intensify in aroma over time.

  3. Hi Stephen – sorry about this. I was probably high on essential oils and forgot to mention it. Here are the ingredients for this formula:

    2 teaspoons beeswax
    1 teaspoon almond oil
    1 teaspoon shea butter
    1 teaspoon argan oil
    2 capsules of vitamin E
    3-4 drops of essential oil

Increase beeswax content to make moustache wax; decrease for beard oil or lube.

Thank you Christina, fantastic video looks like you had a lot of fun making it. Are there any other fragrances you would recommend?

      • Let’s see – well, I went right off Frankincense after I made that video – too much of a good thing can be hard on the nose! I’m still a big fan of tea tree but I also like orangey essential oils. It’s such an intensely personal choice though – especially as you’re going to be smelling it all day – so I’d recommend going to a health food shop and spending half an hour or so testing out a few oils. They’re quite pricey too, so you really want to be sure. Good luck.
